MIGHTY MIGHTY JETS MAKE IT A THREE-PEAT!!!
31 August 2008
The mighty Gungahlin Jets created history yesterday at Ainslie Oval, winning their third straight AFL Canberra Division 3 Grand Final in unbelievable circumstances!!! In one of the greatest Grand Finals ever, a crowd of over 1200 people witnessed the Jets pull off the impossible, coming back from 39 points down in the third quarter to kick the last 9 goals of the match, running completely over the top of the devastated Belconnen Magpies, 14-14-98 to 12-10-82!!! The stunning comeback from the Jets left the entire crowd completely shellshocked!!!
Congratulations to coach Jase Burgess and his courageous men on their magnificent achievement!!!
That makes it 3 Premierships in a row for the mighty Jetters!!!
Unfortunately, the club couldn't pull off the dream Grand Final weekend, as the Jets 2's were beaten by Yass in the AFL Canberra Division 4 Grand Final, and the Jets Women's side was defeated by Belconnen on Friday night in the ACTWAFL Division 2 Grand Final.
Nonetheless it was a massive night of celebrations last night at the Old Canberra Inn, which continued today, and will continue on Mad Monday tomorrow, and for many days and nights to come!!!

Second Semi-Finals - Magpies swoop on inaccurate Jets as the 2's charge into the Grand Final
18 August 2008
The Gungahlin Jets were outgunned by minor premiers Belconnen in the second-semi-final on Saturday at Ainslie Oval. The inaccurate Jets went down by 38 points to the Belconnen straight-shooters 17-3-105 to 9-13-67. Belconnen go straight through to the GF in 2 weeks time whilst the Jets will face ADFA next week in the Preliminary Final, after the Rams comfortably accounted for Murrumbidgee 13-11-89 to 9-10-64 in the first semi-final.
The Jets Reserves had more success in their second semi-final against the previously undefeated Yass Roos, upsetting the Roos 9-12-66 to 8-10-58. The Jets Magoos go straight through to the Grand Final in a fortnight to meet the winner of Yass Vs Belconnen, who play off in the Preliminary Final this weekend after Belconnen thrashed Goulburn in the first semi-final.
Unfortunately the Jets Women's side had to forfeit their semi-final match against Belconnen at half-time, after they started the match with 18 players but had several players go down with injury in the first half. The Jetettes get a second chance - they'll be up against ADFA in the Preliminary Final after ADFA finished ANU's season.
This Saturday is Preliminary Final day and 2 of the Jets 3 senior sides are involved. The Ladies are first up - they take on ADFA at ADFA at midday and then the 1's do battle with ADFA at Manuka Oval at 2:15pm. This hard-fought victory, their 9th in the past 11 matches, ensured that the Jets finished the H&A season in 2nd place (12 wins, 6 losses), earning them the double chance, and giving them a red-hot chance at completing a hattrick of ACTAFL Div 3 premierships!
Earlier in the day the Jets 2's put in one of their best performances of the season, ending the Goulburn Swans' 9-game winning streak by defeating them 15-12-102 to 8-7-55, also at KZ Oval. Mid-season change at the top for the Jets 27 May 2008
Moves are afoot to appoint an interim senior coach for the Gungahlin Jets for the remainder of the season following the resignation of Craig “Spanner” Spencer on Saturday.
After helping the team to a thumping win over Tuggeranong on Saturday, Spanner announced he would be standing down as head coach, for personal reasons, and was considering whether or not to stay on as a player.
The Jets would like to thank Spanner for all the work he has done so far this season and wish him the best in whatever he decides to do in the future.
The committee is now on the hunt for an experienced coach who understands the culture of the club, with premiership player and former Jets coach Jason “Burgo” Burgess firmly in the mix.
Jason has agreed to lead the team against Eastlake this weekend, before the committee makes a final decision at a meeting on Monday.
Stay tuned for an official announcement.

Jets announce new major sponsor 29 March 2008
The Gungahlin Jets are pleased to announce that Thoroughbred Park has jumped on board as the club's function venue for the 2008 season.
Jets players and fans now have an impressive venue for after-match functions, with Thoroughbred Park's facilities including a bar and a kitchen.
The Jets board is hoping this agreement will lead to a long-term relationship.
The key now is for Jets players and fans to take advantage of this relationship and get to as many after-match functions as possible.
The Thoroughbred Park agreement is the latest in a string of successful sponsorship arrangements the Jets board has secured for the upcoming season.
Sponsors are the life blood of the Jets and it is crucial both players and supporters now show loyalty to our sponsors wherever possible.
So get down and have a beer or wine or softdrink with the players on Saturdays. |
