New Committee Announced - The
new JETS Committee has been announced for the 2006 season: |
| Major Award Winners - Congratulations to Pete Stevens and Aaron Mills who won the 1st Division and 2nd Division JETS Best and Fairest awards respectively at the JETS Presentation Night recently. More..... |
| Grand Final Results - Belconnen suffered their second successive Grand Final loss at the hands of ANU yesterday after a 44-point thumping from the students. Favourites all season, the Magpies were hoping to avenge their shock loss last year, however that thought must have haunted them yesterday as ANU dominated the match to win easily. Like Collingwood in 2002/03, the Magpies may have blown their chance for a flag....only time will tell in 2006. In 2nd division the Juggernaughts finally won a Premiership flag with an easy win over ANU. Murrumbidgee have suffered Grand Final losses in recent seasons which would have made this, their first Premiership that much sweeter. With the proposed change to the CDL structure, the Juggernaughts may have to wait some time for their next shot at a flag as they will most likely be promoted to division 1 for the 2006 season. |

Season over for the JETS - After
a long season the JETS bowed-out of the Finals race after a nail-biting
loss to Ainslie on Sunday. Neither side gave an inch for four quarters
until Ainslie took a match-winning lead inside the last minute of
the game. For the Magoos, their season ended at the conlusion of the regular season with a 94-point loss to ANU...more |
Final
Match for the Magoos - The
Mighty JETS Magoos will be hoping to finish their 2005 season on a
high as they take-on ladder-leaders ANU at South Oval on Sunday. With
nothing to lose the JETS will be approaching this game as their Grand
Final and will be desperate for a win. After a disappointing season
by JETS standards, the Magoos have struggled with numbers for much
of the year resulting in poor on-field results. However the Magoos
have hit a purple patch in recent weeks stringing some good four-quarter
efforts together and will be looking to play their best game for the
year this Sunday. Game starts at 12pm. Go the Magoos!! The Ones have the bye this week which will give some players plenty of time to recover from niggling injuries, putting them in good shape for the First Semi Final against Ainslie in two weeks. |
JETS
Struggle Against In-Form ANU - The
JETS' less than impressive form against Harman last week e-surfaced
against ANU on Saturday at Ken Zimmer Oval after they suffered a 6-goal
defeat in their Round 17 match. The Mighty Magoos had better luck
against the top-four Cootamundra Blues though as they totally outplayed
their opponents to record a rare win for 2005. Full

JETS
Fail to Impress against Hogs - The
JETS slow start against the Hogs on Saturady failed to gain momentum
as they trailed for all but the final minutes of the game where they
were able to eek out a draw against the Hogs. The Magoos started with
15 players against Belconnen and suffered an 8-goal blitz from the
Magpies in the first term. However the JETS lifted after quarter time
to compete with Belconnen for the remainder of the match in a gutsy
performance with so few players. Full

the BYE, and a number of first-graders returning from injury, the

injury and unavailability meant the JETS would field their weakest
team for the season to date and Cooma took full advantage, winning
by 14 goals. For a full match report, go to Season

First
Round this Sunday! - the
JETS will tackle Ainslie in their opening round of the 2005 CDL Division
1 season this Sunday at Ainslie Oval. After frustrating losses to the
Tricolors in 2004, the JETS will be hungry to get a win on the board.
The coaches have picked a well-balanced side for the encounter which
is expected to be tough......the JETS are well aware that Ainslie ACTAFL
Seniors and Reserves do not play this weekend, and they may take the
opportunity to test some senioer players in this game. Nonetheless,
the JETS will not use that as an excuse, and are focussed on winning
the game.Congratulations go to those players who have been promoted
from last years Magoos squad, and also to new players - Brett Quester,
Simon Mair, Murray Green and Travis Morse who will wear the Blue, Black
and White for the first time. Well done fellas!Game starts at 2.15pm.For

JETS
Head to Wollongong - the
JETS Pre-season campaign continued on the weekend before Easter when
they travelled to Wollongong to take-on Northern Districts in a return
encounter from last year's pre-season game. With only 17 JETS making
the journey we called on the services of ex-JETS Legend - Iain Jarman
to lend a hand. You wouldn't have known it but the champion backman
hadn't played for over a year, and slotted into the team nicely, picking
up plenty of possesions.Wayne Middleton, another JETS champion came
down from Sydney to watch the game and ended-up taking the role of runner
and drinks carrier. Wayne was looking forward to watching the game with
a few cold ones, but glady accepted the role. After starting well, and
always looking like the better team, it took the JETS until the fifth
an sixth quarters to shake the persistent Tigers. The evntual winning
margin was 7 goals, but probably would have been much higher with our
regular squad. Thanks have to go to Jarmo and Wayno for their efforts.
Thanks also to the Tigers for their hospitality.....rumour has it the
boys had an enjoyable evening. |
JETS
Take-on the Might of Ainslie - the
JETS Pre-Season hit top gear when it took on Ainslie in a double-header
at the "Z" a few weeks ago. With the Ainslie squads made up
of a combination of under 18's, CDL and ACATFL Reserves, and the JETS
undermanned due to absence and injury, the JETS were always in for tough
day.The Magoos ran out with only 10 JETS but had their numbers boosted
by some excess Ainslie players. After a slow start the Magoos found
their rythm, and coach Booger was pleased was certain aspects of the
game. The JETS ones had a reasonably well-balanced side, although there
were a few stars missing. The Ainslie line-up boasted a very fit and
in-form ex-JET, Trent "Rowdy" Pellow, along with many of its
Premiership winning ACTAFL Reserves team from 2004. The game was evenly
matched for three quarters, with Ainslie dominating most of the third
quarter, setting up a lead they maintained for the remainder of the
match. It was a good hitout all 'round for the club which prepared it
well for upcoming matches. |
Pre-Season
Training is almost over! - the
JETS campaign for season 2005 has begun in ernest at Amaroo Oval. Numbers
to date have been encouraging with more expected in the coming weeks.
The JETS have had a busy pre-season, and coaches Leigh Taafe and Greg
Mace have been working hard to prepare a schedule that is varied, interesting,
aimed at improving fitness levels, football skills and most importantly........TEAM
SPIRIT. We
have already welcomed a number of new starters to the club and will
be hoping for more as pre-season completes in a little over two weeks.
The committee has been working hard at recruiting players in the Gungahlin
region and will continue to do so for the duration of the 2005 season.Remember......if
you know anyone who is interested in playing footy for the JETS, let
them know they are always welcome |

Sign New Major Sponsor - the JETS' move to the Gungahlin region
was completed recently when it signed a four-year sponsorship deal with
the Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club. The JETS Juniors have called the Lakes
home for two years now and it was only a matter of time before the Senior
Club took residence there also. The move is viewed as a further step
towards developing Aussie Rules Football in the Gungahlin region, and
with the support of the Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club, the JETS future in
Gungahlin looks bright.

Farewell the Sports Club Kaleen - the
JETS said goodbye to the Sports Club Kaleen today after enjoying eleven
years of their valued support. The JETS joined to the SCK in 1994 and
quickly formed a strong corporate relationship with the club whilst
integrating well with its existing members. Over the years the JETS
held over 50 major functions at the club creating some memorable moments. The
SCK have seen the JETS grow from a one-team club, to a club with two
senior teams, six junior teams, 60-plus kids playing AUSKICK, and over
500 members. The JETS are proud to admit that without the generous support
of the Sports Club Kaleen, the JETS would not enjoy their current status. From
all at the Gungahlin JETS AFC, we thank the Sports Club Kaleen for their
support of Australian Rules Football and wish them every success in
the future. |
