We Did It!!!

The JETS made club history on Sunday, winning their maiden AFL Canberra Division 1 Premiership with a stirring 9-point win over ANU at Manuka Oval. After trailing all day ANU snatched the lead in the last 10 minutes of the match in a desperate last quarter, however the JETS reagined the lead minutes later to win the 2006 Premiership. GO YOU MIGHTY JETS!! Full report

JETS into 2006 Grand Final

The JETS made it into the 2006 AFL Canberra Div 1 Grand Final in two weeks time with a 31-point win over Belconnen at RMC oval on Saturday. After a bright start the JETS let a handy lead slip with poor finishing to go into the last quarter with only a 3-point lead. However they found their mark once again to kick four straight in the last term for a solid win. The Grand Final will be held at Manuka Oval on Sunday 3 September at 2pm. All JETS fans are encouraged to come down and support the JETS in their tilt at the 2006 Premiership.

JETS Minor Premiers

In a big day for the JETS they secured the Minor Premiership with 140-point win over Eastlake on Saturday. The JETS lead from the start, piling on the goals throughout the match to the delight of the huge home crowd. The JETS now focus their attention to the upcoming finals and will be throwing everything at the Magpies in their 2nd Semi Final clash on Saturday at RMC Oval. The JETS have had two good wins over the Magpies this year, but that means little when playing finals footy. Get down to RMC a 2pm to support the JETS in their tilt at the 2006 flag!

The Magoos finished their season in true fighting spirit but were unable to match it with RMC who look the goods to give Belconnen a shake in the twos premiership. Well done to all the boys who played for the Magoos this year, thanks to all the support staff and a big thanks to Houser for doing his best to put the strongest team on the paddock each week.

Dirty Day for JETS

Once again the JETS lined-up against a top four team playing for their finals survival, this time ANU at ANU oval and it was the students who made the most of the early play. ANU's hard, fast running game caught the JETS off-guard and by quarter time the JETS faced a three goal deficit. The JETS second quarter was better, however the momentum was still with ANU who were full of confidence going into the main break with a 4 goal advantage. The JETS second half was much better and for all but the last five minutes of the game they held ANU goaless for the half while taking the lead in the last ten. Not to be denied the students rallied to kick their only two goals for the half which was enough to secure a hard-fought 2 point victory over the JETS.

The Magoos had a second road-trip in as many weeks, this time to Goulburn to take on the Swans on their home turf. The JETS squad was stretched and by the start of the game had been reduced to just two on the bench. The JETS recent good form continued as they took it to Goulburn with nothing serperating the teams at the first change, however Goulburn broke the game open in the second term with a 7-goal burst that would ensure they would take the points on the day. The JETS battled hard in the second half but Goulburn had all the momentum and were never going to let this one slip from their halftime advantage. The JETS were left to rue their lapse in concentration in the second quarter but at least finished the game knowing that their second quarter lapse was what seperated the teams in the end.

Next week the Ones take on Eastlake and the Magoos clash with RMC in a double header at the Zee to close out the home and away season. Make sure you get down and support the boys for our final home game.

JETS' Tough Encounters

With their finals future in our hands, a determined Harman lined-up against the JETS in the Ones clash at Harman on Saturday. Harman had to win to keep their slim finals chances alive and played like it for all but the last five minutes of the match. The scores were close all day and when the Hogs held a 9 point lead inside the last five minutes of the match it looked like they might "take home the bacon". Not to be outdone, the JETS forced a turnover when Harman were chipping the ball around in an attempt to run down the clock, and a mark and goal from Andrew Kouvaras brought the JETS within three. With a minute left the JETS won the centre clearance, and Dale Frankel swooped on the end of some slick ball movement to score the match winner with 45 seconds left.

The Magoos faced a huge challenge, travelling to Coota to take on the Blues on their home turf. Coota have smashed every team at their home ground this year, and with key players missing, one short on the bench, and Anthony Carroll pulling on the boots while being Team Manager/Assistant Coach/Runner, it didn't look good for the JETS. To the surprise of the Coota players and supporters, the JETS gave it to them all day and were always in the hunt to cause a boil over. In the last quarter the JETS were within 8 points and into attack, however Coota rebounded with two goals to put the game beyond doubt. While the scoreboard said it was a loss, the Magoos gained plenty from this game and will put it into Goulburn next week.

JETS Enjoy Good Weekend

In the game of the year, the JETS Ones overran Belconnen by 40 points in their top of the table clash on Saturday. For three quarters both sides played fast, tough footy which was a great game to watch for large crowd on hand. It was not until the last quarter that the JETS were able to break the game open with a five goal burst that put the game beyond doubt.

In a great day for the JETS the Magoos beat a determined Cooma side by 37 points. The margin could have been much higher but injuries took their toll in the last quarter and the Cats were able to add some respectability to the scoreboard.

Magpies Smash JETS

In a one-sided game the Belconnen Magpies showed why they are a Premiership contender with a 110-point thrashing of a disappointing JETS Magoos side on Saturday. The wet, miserable weather did not deter the highly skilled Belconnen side as they played dry weather footy in the worst of conditions. The score could have been worse if not for some heroics from the JETS defence, however across the ground the JETS were outclassed and will be looking for a much better effort next week.

The Ones had the bye this week as they prepare for their blockbuster clash with Belconnen next week, while the Magoos host Cooma in a double-header at Ken Zimmer Oval.

JETS Enjoy Double-Win

The Ones managed a hard-fought win over a desperate ADFA last Sunday at ADFA. The cadets had to win to keep their finals chances alive, and took it to the JETS, leading for most of the game. The JETS' slow start saw them trail at every change, however they hit the front when it counted, taking the game by 7 points. Best on ground was Pete Stevens who is enjoying a great return to form.

The Magoos headed to Yass coming off three big losses and were expecting a tough match against the Roos which is what they got. The JETS desperation for the footy in the first half served them well as they opened up a handy 10 goal lead by half time, however Yass fought back in the second half to make it a real contest and a spectacle for the large crowd watching. The JETS regained control of the match in the last quarter to run-out convincing 11-goal winners. Having been a while since both grades have won in the same round it was great weekend for the club. Match reports soon.

Mixed Fortunes for JETS

In a big weekend for the JETS we had a hard fought win in first grade over Murrumbidgee while the Magoos had a disappointing loss to ANU. Match reports soon.

The club also celebrated their High-Flyers night which was a great success. High-Flyers enjoyed a great meal, full bar, cash draws and a huge night of fun!! Major draw winners were Regina Andrews ($500); Chris Klose ($250); and Wayne Morley ($100). Other winners were Jan Zimmer ($100); Trav Scholfield ($25); Andrew Kouvaras ($125); Greg Mace ($125) and Glen McLure ($125). Thanks to everyone who supported the High Flyers Club which raised almost $2000 for the club.

Congratulations to Dale Frankel who won almost $270 in the JETS lucky badge draw on Saturday night. Dale was a good sport and put $100 over the bar.....onya Dale! Ports won the meat tray....barbie at Ports place this weekend!

We have another big weekend of matches with the Magoos looking to break their losing streak against Yass in Yass on Saturday at 2pm, while the Ones will be aiming for their sixth straight victory over ADFA at ADFA on Sunday at 2.15pm. Make sure you get along to support the boys.

We are approaching the end of the home and away season and the Ones will definately play finals footy. We are calling on all JETS supporters to get along and cheer the boys in their remaining games for the season as they strive for the ultimate prize in the club's 25th year. Make sure you play your part!!

Full reports here. This Saturday the Ones clash with an in-form Murrumbidgee at Kambah Oval at 2.15pm, and the Magoos take-on ANU in a must-win game at South Oval at 12pm. Get down and support the boys as they aim for wins in both grades. Team Lists here (Thursday Night).

JETS Indifferent Form

Team Lists here.

JETS Continue Great Form

The JETS continued their winning form on Saturday with a commanding 139-point victory over the Eastlake Demons at Kingston Oval, while the Magoos had the bye. Full report here.

JETS Win Big

The mighty JETS made the most of their 25th Anniversary weekend with big wins in both grades on Saturday. The Magoos kicked-off proceedings with an 81-point thrashing of the Harman Hogs, then the Ones followed-up with an equally convincing 82-point win in their top of the table clash with ANU. Full reports here. This week the Magoos have the bye and the Ones take-on Eastlake at Kingston on Saturday. Game starts at 2.15pm.

Dirty Day for the JETS

The JETS' depth was tested on the weekend after several key players were missing from the first grade team due to injury and unavailability, and in a tough day at the office the JETS lost in both grades. The Ones lost to a determined Harman side by 17 points in first grade, and the Magoos were trounced by Cootamundra. Full reports here.

JETS Fire!

The Mighty JETS hit top form on the weekend with commanding victories in both grades. The Magoos took-on Murrumbidgee at Kambah which has traditionally been a difficult place to win. After beating the Juggernaughts in the first round at Amaroo by less than a goal, the JETS were primed for a tough encounter at the 'cauldron'. Murrumbidgee played as expected but it was the JETS who displayed inspiring football to beat the home side by 7 goals, setting up the win with a determined second quarter.

In the match of the round, the JETS clashed with Belconnen who jumped to a 2 goal lead in the first five minutes of the game which turned out to be the last time they lead for the match. Apart from a goal flurry late in the third quarter, Belconnen succumbed to a committed JETS team who went a step further towards stamping their authority on the AFL Canberra Division 1 competition. The JETS have kept the win in perspective however, knowing full well they have tough encounters ahead with Harman and ANU, and also expect much tougher opposition from ADFA in the second round. Full reports here.

JETS Clash with Magpies and Juggernaughts

The JETS take on the Belconnen Magpies at Jamison Oval on Saturday in the Match of the round, while the Magoos will be looking to back up their first round win over the Juggernaughts with another victory on Saturday at Kambah. The Ones kick-off at 2.15pm, and the Magoos at 12pm. Team lists here.

JETS Easy Win Over ADFA

The JETS enjoyed another easy victory on Saturday when they dispensed of an under-strength ADFA side by 11 goals. Full reports here.

JETS Fight Back Too Late

After a good win the week before the JETS could not maintain their momentum against RMC at RMC. The JETS let the Demons out to an early lead, and try as they might could not reel them in. Full reports here.

JETS Get Up in Both Grades

The JETS enjoyed wins in both grades on Saturday when they easily accounted for Murrumbidgee in 1st grade, and secured a hard fought win over Yass in the Magoos. Full reports here.

JETS Double-Header this Saturday

Make sure you get down to the Zee this Saturday for yet another home double-header. This week the JETS take-on Murrumbidgee in first grade after their good win over Harman before the Easter break, while the Magoos will be up against a Yass team looking to improve on their round 2 win over ADFA. The Ones kick-off at 2.15pm, preceded by the Magoos at 12pm. Check-out the teams here.

Mixed Fortunes for the JETS

The Magoos suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the Goulburn Swans, while the Ones enjoyed a 129-point annihilation of the Woden Blues in a double-header at Ken Zimmer Oval on Saturday Full reports here.

JETS Great Start to the Season

The JETS enjoyed a great start to the 2006 CDL Season on Saturday with wins in their 1st and 2nd division matches at Ken Zimmer Oval. In front of a large crowd the JETS narrowly accounted for Murrumbidgee in the Magoos game before the Ones completely dominated Ainslie to record one of their highest scores against the Kangaroos for some time. In addition, the JETS held their annual Ladies Day which was a great day for all in attendance. Full reports here.

JETS Good Form Against ANU

The JETS clashed with ANU last weekend in a double-header at Ken Zimmer Oval in hot conditions for footy. ANU were under-manned with their squad reduced to 26 players, so the Magoos game was reduced to 3 x 15 minutes quarters and the firsts game reduced to 3 x 22 minute quarters. The Magoos battled hard with many new faces performing well against strong opposition from ANU, and in a close game the JETS went down by less than a goal.

In the firsts, most of ANU's squad had to back up against a fresh JETS squad boasting some talented recruits and the end result in favour of the JETS was predictable. Given ANU's lack of numbers on the day they would have been pleased with their efforts, whilst all at the JETS gained plenty from the hitout.

JETS vs ANU Clash this Saturday

With a full canteen running on the day and great weather predicted, all JETS supporters are encouraged to come down to KZO for a great day of footy, then back to the Lakes for post-match presentations from 7pm. See you there.

JETS Prevail in Wollongong

The JETS traveled to Wollongong last Saturday for their annual pre-season clash with the Northern Districts Tigers. Only 22 JETS players were available, but once again club stalwart, Iain Jarman was there to help make up the numbers.

The clubs battled it out for six quarters, and although the Tigers had almost 20 extra players to circulate through their bench, the JETS won comfortably in a polished performance. The Tigers showed great hospitality in putting on a BBQ after the game, awarding prizes to JETS best players, and hosting the JETS at their local watering hole until the wee hours. It was also great to see a number of the players' better halves make the trip to support the boys and enjoy the social side.

The JETS would like to thank the Tigers for the weekend, wish them well for their season ahead, and look forward to hosting the Tigers next season.

Intra Club Match / Family BBQ a Huge Success

The JETS held their intra-club game on Thursday 2 March and took the opportunity to host a family BBQ on the night at Ken Zimmer Oval. Over 40 players were on hand to run out three solid quarters of fast footy. You could tell the boys were itching for a game after a long pre-season, and the large crowd that came to support were not disappointed. Over 80 players, family and friends supported the night and enjoyed the BBQ served up by Coxy and Doggie. Well done to all for a successful evening.
