Andrew "Sippa" Kouvaras kept his dream season going on Monday night after winning the J.P.O'Dea Medal for the second-successive year. The award, presented for the Best and Fairest 1st Division player in the AFL Canberra comp was the icing on what has proved to be a very large cake for Kouvaras in season 2007. After coaching and playing in the JETS' second-successive Division 1 Grand Final two weeks earlier, Kouvaras was named JET of the Year, Division 1 Best and Fairest, and Player's Player at last Saturday's JETS Presentation Night before receiving the League award on Monday. In accepting the award from the league Kouvaras told the 250-plus crowd that his two years at the JETS have been the best in his football career, and that the JETS are the best club to be a part of. Great stuff Sippa! I'm sure you all join me in congratulating Andrew on capping another amazing football season.

JETS Win Second-Successive Grand Final 6 September 2007

The Mighty JETS have once again been crowned the AFL Canberra Division 1 Premiers after a crushing 63-point win over ANU in last weekends Grand Final. Celebrations were long and loud as the JETS finished their season in the best possible way.

In perfect conditions for footy, ANU got the early jump kicking the first three goals of the match before the JETS responded with two of their own. It was the second quarter however that defined the course of the game as the JETS kicked 5 goals to none to take control. ANU came hard at the JETS early in the third but the JETS had too many answers as they extended their lead before holding ANU goal less in the last term for a great win.

Everyone involved with the club are extremely proud of the effort of the team on the day, and for their commitment throughout the season. Great work Fellas!! Full report here.

JETS into Grand Final 30 August 2007

In a replay of last year's Division 1 Grand Final, the JETS line-up against ANU at Manuka Oval this Saturday with hopes of back to back Premierships. In the last six weeks the JETS have been building towards this match and if their last performance against ANU is any indicaion, the JETS will give this one a real shake. We hope all supporters will gather in the main grandstand and cheer loudly for the mighty JETS. Full team here.

Preliminary Final - Magoos out of the Hunt 30 August 2007

After winning the Minor Premiership just a few weeks ago, the Magoos missed out on their chance at a Premiership after their 7-goal loss to Belconnen on Sunday. Generally the JETS put up a good fight but it was their inability to convert numerous inside 50's in the first half that allowed Belconnen to build on their score and grow in confidence. After a great season and a lot of hard work, at least the boys can be satisfied that they gave it their all against an experienced Belconnen team. Congratulations to the Magoos for a great year - we all hope you can build on that effort in 2008. Full story

Div 2 Preliminary Final - JETS vs Belconnen 23 August 2007

The full value of winning the double chance will be realised this Sunday when the Magoos lineup against Belconnen at Jamison oval in the Preliminary Final. After a poor outing against ANU the week before the JETS will be focussed on the task of winning this match to give themselves a shot at the Premiership. Too much work has gone into the season to let this one slip so this should be a cracker of a game. Make sure you get down to Jammo and support the mighty Magoos. Full teams here.

Div 1 - JETS into Grand Final 23 August 2007

The JETS made it into their second successive Grand Final with a crushing 73-point win over ANU on Saturday. They have the week off to prepare for their tilt at Back to Back Premierships and based on last years epic match, this one shouldn't be missed! The game kicks off at 2.30pm and is preceeded by the Magoos Grand Final, and the Women's AFL Grand Final before that. At only $5 entry this is great value for what is certain to be a great day of footy. Make sure you get down there and cheer loud and long for the JETS!

2nd Semi-Final - Ones Get Up, Magoos Hammered 23 August 2007

In a superb display from the Ones they completely outplayed ANU to storm into the 2007 Grand Final by 73 points. A team effort in every sense of the term, the JETS refused to let ANU into a match that they dominated across the ground. ANU now play a rejuvinated Harman in the Preliminary Final with the winner to meet the JETS in the Grand Final at Manuka Oval next Saturday. Well done fellas!

The Magoos had a dirty day out and apart from a reasonable start they were well-beaten by an ANU side who came to play finals footy. In a terrible result for the Magoos who hadn't been beaten by ANU this year, they never looked in it and were swept aside by 90 points. After such a promising build up to the finals, every player was bitterly disappointed and will be working harder than ever this week to ensure they get another shot at ANU in the Grand Final. Full story

Semi-Final - JETS ANU in Double-Header 17 August 2007

With the first week of finals to be played this weekend, the JETS lineup against ANU in both grades in the 2nd semi-final at Ainslie Oval. Both clubs have demonstrated growth this year by finishing in the top two in both grades and all games this year have been close so expect two great matches. The JETS have had a number of players return from injury and the job for the selectors, whilst good for the club, has been difficult as they have had to tell players they have missed a spot - hang in there fellas. Both sides will be desperate for the win which will put them into their respective Grand Finals and would cap-off a great day for the club. A loss will see them play again next week in Preliminary finals. Good luck to both teams - lets all get to Ainslie this Saturday to support!! Full teams here.

Bitter-Sweet Day for the JETS 17 August 2007

It was hoped that the Ones would account for ANU and claim their second successive Minor Premiership but unfortunately it was a day where the JETS just couldn't get going. Full credit to ANU who restricted the JETS all day and came away with a four-goal win. The boys have had plenty to think about this week and will be raring to go on Saturday to reverse the result.

The mighty Magoos fought off a huge challenge from RMC to record a great win for the club. For the first time since the JETS entered two teams in the Canberra District competition, they have won the Minor Premiership in Div 2. Congratulations fellas, we all hope you can take that great form into Saturday's clash with ANU. Full story

JETS Good Wins 10 August 2007

In a great weekend for the JETS we fought off a strong challenge from Goulburn in the Magoos before posting a comfortable 89-point win over Murrumbidgee in the Ones. Full story

Joint Statement from the JETS and the Blues 27 July 2007

The Presidents of the Woden Blues and Gungahlin JETS today expressed sincere remorse for the incident at their match on Saturday 21 July 2007.

Both club presidents met with AFL Canberra Chairman Geoff Gosling on Tuesday 24 July.

They said that they were left in no doubt that the AFL Canberra board regarded the incident as totally unacceptable and expected the clubs to act quickly to set their internal houses in order.

Both clubs have had meetings with their players, coaches and managers and reinforced the need for compliance with the AFL Canberra code of conduct. Both clubs are still in discussion with their players, coaches and supporters about whether suspensions over and above those meted out by the Disciplinary Tribunal are warranted.

At the Disciplinary Tribunal, 5 people involved in the incident were suspended for periods of two or four weeks. Those suspended for four weeks will miss the rest of the season and the first week of the finals.

The clubs have offered apologies to the AFL Canberra community for participating in such a shameful incident but do not wish to make any further comment on the incident, preferring to accept the punishments handed out and concentrate on ensuring their internal affairs are in order.

The club presidents have met and ensure that there is no on-going bad blood between the clubs.

Round 16 - Ones vs Hawks; Magoos vs Magpies 27 July 2007

The Ones face the Hawks out at Kambah on Saturday in guaranteed tough conditions and an expected tough match. Kambah Oval is easily the worst ground to play on in Canberra with a noticeable slope to one end of the ground and unpredictable wind direction. This generally gives the locals an advantage in knowing the conditions better than their opponents so the Ones will need to be switched on from the start to come home with the points. The Magoos are missing a few through suspension and injury but have a fairly strong side to tackle the Magpies at Jamison Oval. A win will keep the JETS at the top of the table with just two rounds to play, while a loss will surrender that position to ANU who have the Coota bye. The Ones kick-off at 2.15pm with the Magoos at 12pm. Full teams here.

Round 15– JETS win in Style 27 July 2007

Finally we get a chance to talk about the JETS commanding victory over the Blues on Saturday as until now the discussion has been focused elsewhere. The JETS held a 2-goal advantage in the first half after controlling much of the play but in the second half they played great footy to restrict Woden to just one goal while extending the winning margin to 62 points. The Magoos had the Coota bye. Full story

Round 14– JETS Win Close Matches 19 July 2007

It was a tight affair in both grades last Saturday as the Ones overcame a determined Eastlake by 11 points, while the Magoos came from behind to win their top of the table clash with ANU by 8 points. Rod Wheatley was best on ground in his 150th game, and the Magoos now sit clear on top of the ladder which made the win even more special. Full story

Round 14 – Another tough round for the JETS 12 July 2007

In another tough round the JETS face an improving Eastlake Demons at their home ground - Kingston Oval this Saturday, while the Magoos travel to South oval to take on ANU in a top of the table clash, which is also Rod Wheatley's 150th game. Roddy has been with the JETS since 1994 and has been one of our most courageous players in every game he has played. All at the JETS wish Roddy the best of luck in this important milestone game. The Ones kick-off at 2.15pm and the Magoos at 12pm. Full teams here.

Round 13 – JETS Win Tough Double-Header 12 July 2007

In what was expected as a tough clash, the Ones managed a hard-fought 6-point win over a determined Harman at Harman on Saturday. Poor finishing combined with horrible conditions saw the JETS with 6 extra scoring shots which proved to be the winning margin. The Magoos faced an easier task against an undermanned Harman side and while the 78-point margin would suggest a one-sided affair, the Hogs provided a brave contest with only 16 players and made the JETS earn every kick. Full story.

Round 13 – JETS Double-Header against Harman 5 July 2007

The JETS take-on Harman in both grades this Saturday which promises to be ahuge double-header at Morgan Dunbar oval. The Ones will be up against a Harman team fresh from their shock victory over ANU so an absolute cracker is expected. With a number of players still missing through injury the JETS will need to be at their best to continue their winning streak. The Magoos get a few players back this week and face the Harman Magoos who are on the rebound from a belting from ANU so this should also be a tough encounter at the Hogs home ground. The Ones kick-off at 2.15pm with the earlier game starting at 12pm. Full teams here.

Round 12 - Another Good Win for the JETS 5 July 2007

In cold, windy conditions at Ken Zimmer oval on Saturday, the JETS kept their winning form going with a solid 55-point win over ADFA. The Magoos were gifted the 4 points after a forfeit from ADFA so the curtain-raiser was left to the JETS Vets who put on a masterful display of skill, speed and execution...... Full story

Ones Win Big; Magoos Falter 21 June 2007

The Ones went some way towards making amends for their Round 9 disappointment with a thumping 101-point win over the Juggernauts last Saturday. Apart from the third quarter the JETS dominated the match which was never in doubt. A depleted Magoos side put in a brave effort against the Jugs but could not withstand their last quarter onslaught after matching it with their opponents for three quarters - eventually going down by 10 goals. Full story.

This week the JETS face Eastlake in both grades at Ken Zimmer Oval on Saturday. Both teams will be looking for good wins to keep their top four ladder positions. We all wish Steve the best this weekend and hope the Magoos can get the win to help Steve celebrate in style.

Double Header vs Murrumbidgee 14 June 2007

The Juggernauts have struggled against the top sodes this year and will be desperate for a win in this game to stay in touch with the top four, while the JETS will be looking for a much improved performance to ease the pain of their Round 9 effort. A win in this game will keep the JETS in touch with the top two while a loss could see them lose the double-chance come finals time. Game starts at 2.15pm

In what is expected to be tough encounter the Magoos will be looking to consolidate their spot at the top of the table with a win over an improved Murrumbidgee 2's who are less than 1% out of the top four. Full teams here

Ones Fail to Fire; Magoos Roll-on 14 June 2007

In their worst performance for two years, the Ones succumbed to a committed Woden team by 32 points in a disappointing Round 9 game, while the Magoos who were expecting tough opposition from the Cooma Blue-Cats blew them off the park in a 130-point thumping. Full story
