There were two things that I saw at different grounds on the weekend. One was a team that was not having a good day but were keeping their heads down and trying hard. This is not easy to do when facing a big loss. It shows an inner character for the boys but a can-do attitude for the team, well done. The other incident was when a couple of boys from two teams playing were talking while the ball was at the other end of the field. One of them must have told a joke as the four of them started laughing very hard. This should remind everyone that although we play for ourselves and a team and to win, it is still a game to be enjoyed. A bit of laughter at the right time can not only change someone's attitude, but tell you and others that you are enjoying the game and camaraderie associated with it. See you out on the

I saw an act of sportsmanship in a game last weekend that should be commended. One of the Jets juniors saw an opponent on the ground after a contest for the ball. As soon as the ball had cleared from the contest, he went over to the player and helped him to his feet after seeing him struggle to get up. This act of compassion for a fellow footballer is one that should be applauded. Sportsmanship comes in many forms as we all know. This particular act shows that although the kids are out there to try and win with their mates, they are also there to have fun through exercise. This would not be possible without opposition. I overheard a parent of a child from the opposition team commenting on the Jets players act in a positive manner to another nearby. This not only reflects well on the individual but the club as a whole and will help build the respect for others (team mates, opposition and officials) as mentioned in the code of conduct which the club has developed. See you out on the

The first session that I attended was in March and was a good session. All exercises were explained well following a good warm up for all. The session finished with a team discussion before all departed. The one lesson that everyone can learn from this is the importance of a warm down following training or a game. This session is used to stretch the muscles and gradually relax the body following the workout regardless of how torrid the session was. See you out on the
ground. |
