JETSWEB - Information
for Members and Guests of the Gungahlin JETS AFC.
The JETS have been part of the Amatuer Australian Football
Competition in Canberra since 1982. Over that time the
club has won five Premierships, and has grown to a club
with over 450 members, two Senior teams, six Junior
teams, and over 60 kids playing AUSKICK. The JETS have
been part of the Gungahlin Community since 1996 and
continue to grow in the region. The club's short-term
goal is to dominate the ACTAFL Canberra Disctrict Competition,
with an ultimate goal of entering teams in the ACTAFL's
Premier Competition. |

JETS
14 20 (104) defeated ADFA 2 5 (17)
The JETS
began their premiership defence in style with a convincing
87 point victory over the ADFA Rams. It was a new look JETS,
with 10 of the 2006 premiership players out of the side for
the first round clash, but the style of footy played showed
the JETS will again be a force to contend with for season
2007.
The
JETS backline was superb, with Kelly, Henderson and Clarkson
rebounding the ball out of the defensive 50 when the Rams
were able to get the ball forward. Kocmar, Stevens and Schofield
provided the linking role through the centre of the ground
causing their opponents heartache all day, while Thornton,
Kouvaras, Schlesinger and Porter provided options up forward
that the Rams defence had no answer to. The rotation of players
through the midfield meant that fresh legs were on the ball
at all times, and ADFA couldn’t contain the run of Clayton,
Martin, Truesdale and Roscoe thanks to the dominance in the
ruck of Carruthers and Louis.
While
the JETS were a little rusty in patches, all signs were there
that the coaching staff have the boys up and firing for the
season, and with two weeks now to do a bit of fine tuning
before the first home game of the year on 14 April, the Harman
Hogs could be in for trouble on their visit to Ken Zimmer
oval.

JETS
8 15 (62) defeated ADFA 7 8 (50)
The
JETS magoos kicked off the season with a great win against
the ADFA Rams. With 16 players at the club unavailable for
round 1, this game was always going to be a test of the depth
of the club, as well as the courage and commitment of the
players.
The JETS
set up their win with a great first half of footy, with McNeill,
McLeod, Arch, Brasnett and Housely all playing big roles in
some great passages of play. In the second half, all players
had to dig deep as fatigue set in. May was solid in the backline
at crucial times, and Wheatley didn’t stop running to
provide options for the ball moving forward.
The
magoos showed great courage, persistence and commitment to
get over the line for a win. With two weeks now to get on
the track and improve fitness before the round 2 clash with
Harmen, as well as a number of players returning from unavailability,
season 2007 is shaping up to be a good one for the magoos
and the club overall.
