JETS
enjoy their Big Day
Last
Saturday the JETS hosted their first home games for the 2007
season and also hosted the JETS Ladies Day, Sponsors Day,
the Junior Gala and of course the presentation of the 2006
AFL Canberra Div 1 flag. A large home crowd gathered early
to see around 60 Juniors put through their paces in a series
of training drills which led nicely into the start of the
JETS Div 2 match against Harman. Plenty of JETS ladies were
there to soak up the atmosphere as were many of the club’s
sponsors who all enjoyed a great day at the footy.
One
of the highlights of the day was undoubtedly the presentation
of the AFL Canberra Div 1 flag to the club and AFL Canberra
General Manger – David Wark was on hand to do the honours.
With the growing club support on the sidelines demonstrated
by one of our largest home crowds, both senior teams responded
in kind with good wins which capped-off a great day for the
club.

Division
1 - JETS Shake Off Determined Hogs
After being easily beaten by ANU in round
1, Harman had it all to do against a JETS side buoyed by their
round 1 win over ADFA. Both sides looked fired up for the
clash and in a tough 1st quarter it was the Hogs who had the
better of the play, winning well from the centre clearances
and converting their chances as they caught the JETS off guard.
After conceding a couple of early goals the JETS swung into
action and by the end of the quarter had all but squared the
ledger to trail by 3 points.
A determined Harman continued their 1st quarter
efforts to setup and convert a good running goal early in
the second, only to be pegged back again by good work from
the JETS; however they were to be the only majors for the
2nd quarter as an enthralling arm wrestle developed with neither
side giving an inch. By half time some entertaining footy
from both sides only saw the scores improve slightly from
quarter time as the Hogs held on to a 2-point lead at the
main break.
Signs were good for the JETS in the 3rd term
as they posted a couple of early goals to take the lead for
the first time in the match, but Harman would not go away
and hit back with a strong mark and goal to reduce the margin
once again. The Hogs were tiring though and the JETS managed
to get on top of their opponents in the latter half of the
3rd term to lead by 15 points going into the last quarter.
A late surge from Harman never eventuated as the JETS were
able to run out the game kicking a further 3 goals to Harman’s
1 to win by 27 points.

Division
2 - JETS Convert Slow Start into Big Win
With an improved line up the JETS were looking
for a better effort against a Hogs side that had been well
beaten by ANU in round 1. The game started well for the JETS
with a quick goal although that was quickly answered by Harman
and as the game settled midway through the 1st quarter, both
sides were contesting well and this game looked set to be
a cracker. By quarter time the JETS held a 10 point lead but
were disappointed they were not able to put more scoreboard
pressure on the Hogs. The second quarter was a much better
effort from the JETS as they piled on 7 goals while holding
Harman to just 1 as all players had clearly lifted to win
their positions. By half time the JETS looked a much better
side and had opened up a 47 point lead that already looked
beyond Harman.
The JETS good form continued in the 3rd quarter
as their backline completely shut out the Hogs and the forwards
continued to fire adding a further 5 goals and putting the
game beyond doubt. The team focus of running out the game
was apparent as the JETS continued to dominate the game, increasing
their goal tally by a further 8 goals to Harman’s 1
to complete an emphatic 126 point victory.
