JETSWEB - Information for Members and Guests of the Gungahlin JETS AFC.

The JETS have been part of the Amatuer Australian Football Competition in Canberra since 1982. Over that time the club has won seven Premierships, and has grown to a club with over 450 members, three Senior teams, including a women's team, six Junior teams, and over 60 kids playing AUSKICK.

1982 - The club was formed in 1981 by Graham Mumme and accepted into the MAFL 2nd division competition of the 1982 season. At a meeting of interested players in January 1982, Vince O'Donnell, a former Ainslie 1st grade player was appointed captain/coach, and Paul Gillam his assistant. Graham Bonnett, an experienced football administrator was appointed Team Manager.

The club payed its first game on 1 April 1982 and was soundly beaten by St Edmunds. Only 3 further losses for the season saw the JETS finish third on the ladder behind RMC an ANU. Despite being under-dogs, the JETS flew through the Finals series to win the Grand Final over RMC by 13 points.

1983 - With many of the same players and officials returning for the 1983 season, the home and away season ended in only 2 defeats, finishing in third position once again. However, the season came to an abrupt halt when we were beaten by ANU in the 1st Semi-Final. Craig Lawson became the first JETS player to represent the MAFL, and Paul Smith won his second Best and Fairest.

1984 - saw a revamped MAFL with the JETS playing in an evenly contested division 2A competition. Peter Neil, a former Tom Moore Medal winner took over as captain/coach, but only nine wins for the season saw us finish a disappointing fifth. Not a good result, however the season was highlighted by Andrew "Mundo" Hammond winning the Tom Moore Medal and Team Manaers trophy as the best player in the competition, and Graham Mumme took out the League Leading Goalkicker award.
