- Information for Members and Guests of the Gungahlin
JETS AFC.
The JETS have been part of the Amatuer Australian Football
Competition in Canberra since 1982. Over that time the
club has won seven Premierships, and has grown to a club
with over 450 members, three Senior teams, including a women's team, six Junior
teams, and over 60 kids playing AUSKICK. The JETS have
been part of the Gungahlin Community since 1996 and
continue to grow in the region. The club's short-term
goal is to dominate the ACTAFL Canberra Disctrict Competition,
with an ultimate goal of entering teams in the ACTAFL's
Premier Competition. |

1991
- saw a new degree on enthusiasm
with the club being promoted to 1st division. Geoff Nelson was
appointed Captain/Coach with Robbie Barnes as his Assistant. We
recorded one of our highest losing margins in our first game against
Belconnen, however we re-grouped, the coaches persisted and we
finished a credible 5th.

1992 -
the club remianed in 1st division with Geoff Nelson and Robbie
Barnes continuing the coaching duties. After sustaining early
heavy losses, the club fought back, becoming more competitve and
narrowly missing a finals berth. Three games in a week to finish
the home and away season proved too much, an losing two of these
cost us our finals berth. Geoff Nelson and Leigh Kleinig played
their 50th games, and JET-of-the-Year, Greg Piltz his 100th.

1993 -
saw the JETS remain competitive in the 1st
division competition, yet were unable to capitalise on all of
their on-field opportunities, finishing 6th after a stop/start
draw played havoc with our enthusiasm. Mick Ryan played his 100th
game, JET-of-the-Year winner Geoff Nelson was runner-up in the
League Best and Fairest, and John Bink was awarded Life Membership
for oustanding service to the club.
