teams, and over 60 kids playing AUSKICK. The JETS have
been part of the Gungahlin Community since 1996 and
continue to grow in the region. The club's short-term
goal is to dominate the ACTAFL Canberra District Competition,

1994
- saw a revamped MAFL competition
with the JETS reluctantly playing 2nd division. The hard work
of the previous three seasons was beginning to pay-of for the
club and this move was seen as a backward step by all at the club.
Geoff Nelson remained as coach with Wayne Middleton his assistant,
an we finished the home and away season as Minor Premiers after
dominating the competition along with Harman. We met Harman in
the Major Semi and were beaten by 6 goals. Although not in best
form, we edged out Ainslie to set-up a Grand Final berth against
Harman. The game saw a complete reversal of form as the JETS dominated
Harman from the start to win by a massive 84 points. John Bink
became the first JET to play 150 games, Steve Efford and Iain
Jarman played their 100th, and Richard Douglas his 50th. Mick
Ryan reached 300 goals, surpassing Robbie Barnes who broke his
leg during the season. Daryl Scotland won the club Best an Fairest,
whilst Geoff Nelson was once again runner-up in the League Best
and Fairest. President Andrew Gates was voted JET-of-the-Year,
and Greg Piltz was awarded Life Membership.

1995 -
saw a depleted MAFL saw a single division complete a full round
to determine the make-up of the eventual two-division competition.
The JETS were promoted 1st division, whilst Harman, Grand Finalists
in 1994 suddenly had difficulty with lower ranked teams to remain
in 2nd division. Robbie Walker was named coach with Wayne Middleton
assisting and after an indifferent season, the JETS competed in
the finals for the first time in 1st division. The JETS were somewhat
overawed by the occasion and were soundly beaten by ANU who went
on to win the Premiership. Geoff Nelson played his 100th game,
while Chris Ryan, Greg Shackelford and Wayne Middleton all played
their 50th. Steve Efford won Best and Fairest, John Bink won his
second JET-of-the-Year and Geoff Nelson was awarded Life Membership.

1996 -
was a ground-breaking year for the club.
We became an Incorporated Association, changed our name to the
Gungahlin Australian Football Club and joined the new ACTAFL Canberra
District League after being with the MAFL for 14 years. Wayne
Middleton was named coach, with Russ Podmore and Robbie Walker
his assistants. This was a hard fought season wih many highs and
lows which evetually saw us narrowly defeated by Kingston for
a place in the Grand Final. Andrew Gates played his 100th game,
with Greg Gill and David Simper notching-up their 50th. Ross Howe
was voted Best and Fairest, David Simper the JET-of-the-Year and
President, Andrew Gates was awarded Life Membership for his valuable
contribution to the club.
